9-18-18 Thrift Finds- Disney Lost and Found Items and More

My local thrift shop gets Disney lost and found items every few months. I never know exactly when they will be getting the stuff in (they don’t know either) so when I walked in last Thursday and the store was full of Disney stuff I had fun doing some early Christmas shopping for my family. At least one item has been left out of the pictures so that someone won’t glimpse their Christmas gift early! Of the items above, the most expensive were the R2D2 Mickey Mouse ears for $4 each.

My father has an electric litter box and accessories are expensive but I found some for him for a few dollars at the thrift shop. I also purchased some citronella candles for our hurricane supplies and some other random items.

I was able to buy some little things for the nephews, a Star Trek Enterprise ship for my office at the college, a couple of vintage Nestle coffee mugs and some really pretty reusable napkins.

I found the above baby Buddha, hand towels, Pedi Paws, fans, loafer, and bag of sand toys for $2 or less each. The fans are for Hurricane season, the V.S. blanket is either for a Christmas gift or to sell, and the bag of pool toys and snorkel are for the nephews and our next beach trip.

I also got lucky with some clothes and a blow up cruise ship and a light cover. I especially like the chameleon dress for teaching. The Victoria Secret bra is to sell on Poshmark because they sell well.

5-31-18 Rummage Sale Finds- Coats, Coats, Coats!!!

UPDATE- I paid $40 for 4 giant bags of stuff at that rummage sale, already sold 1 pair overalls for $38, now these for $45, I have the 3rd pair of overalls listed AND I am currently using 8 other items I got in my house, and I have a bunch more to list from that sale including the ann klein coats!!!! I frickin LOVE thrifting!!!!

I had way, way too much fun at a local church rummage sale on a Wednesday of all days! It was the first day of the sale and there was so much stuff! The above pictures are of the sale! I didn’t arrive until about an hour before they closed when I saw a sign on the side of the road on my way home so I didn’t want to stop shopping long enough to take better pictures.

Everything I bought fit into these 3 XL reusable bags. They threw in the bags just for free.

The above photo shows some of the small stuff I bought including 2 giant candles, a pottery barn tray, etc. Most items were $1 each.

The above vintage coat is amazing! I love it but I will probably sell it but it definitely needs to be dry cleaned but I think it will be worth it.

The above is a London Fog coat for $2 to resell.

The above is a another amazing coat for $2 to resell. The fur is fake. I love animals.

The above are Anne Klein full length, 100% wool coats for $2 to resell. All of the coats I hope will sell for $40 to $100 each online.

Above are 3 pairs of overalls including one pair of Carhartts that were $2 each and are already listed for sale on Poshmark for about $40 each.

EDIT: The middle pair of overalls sold for $45 + shipping and the 3rd pair sold for $38 + shipping.

The puppy was excited about his new blanket! How he always knows exactly what I have bought for him is a mystery.

These Bobs and Toms shoes were $2 each. I should have passed on these for resale but oh well. Not every item is a winner.

Thrift Shopping Heads Up- It’s time to look for Boots!

This is officially the time of year where the weather starts to warm up and that means it is also a great time to buy boots at Thrift Shops. I have bought all of the above pairs for next year in the past month. They were $1 or $2 each and because I have room to store them until next year it will save me a lot of money! Not to mention that I love boots and generally wear through them in one season.

5-4-18 Thrift Finds- Clothes, Clothes, Clothes (Now to Sell!)

I bought a huge bag of clothes for about $30 including everything in the below 6 pictures. The goal is to sell these items on eBay and Postmark.

Update- The above black and red Adidas kids tracksuit sold for $18+ shipping on Poshmark. I didn’t have much luck selling the rest of the kids clothes.

I bought the above 3 outfits for my nephew.

The below 5 photos are from about 5 different thrift trips. They are a mix of stuff for us and to sell. All clothes cost $1 or $2 or less besides 1 maxi dress that was $3.

Update- The above floral maxi dress sold for $20+ shipping on Poshmark.

Wish me luck with my online sales!

5-10-18 Thrift Finds- Armillary Sphere

I have wanted an armillary sphere for almost 8 years but they are so darn expensive! Today I found the above one at the thrift shop for $5!!!!

The stuff below is from a couple recent thrift trips! All clothes were less than $2.50, most $1 each.

I found a couple of cool books for my one year old nephew, a couple tiny stuffed animals for the puppy, a marble utensil holder for a dollar fifty, and a Yeti style coffee mug for a dollar!

This picture shows everything I bought to sell including a J crew suit jacket for $2, Hollister jeans for $2.50, two little girls Reeboks shirts, and a Nike Dri-FIT pair of shorts.

The Pug leggings are actually H&M brand and I also bought them to sell. The Star Wars shirt I am also going to list for sale but if it doesn’t sell I’m going to use the fabric for my Star Wars quilt. The dress and skirt I bought to wear to work for myself.

Update- The Pug leggings sold for $8+ shipping on Poshmark.

I got the little makeup mirror that lights up with the cord for about $2 and then I got the Buddhist sculptures for $2 each.

4-13-18 Thrift Finds- Planet Drinking Glasses and More

I bought the above planet drinking glass set for $7.50. I wanted to keep it but they are selling for a decent amount on eBay and so on eBay they go! I also believe they would quickly get broken at my house.

EDIT: These planet drinking glasses sold on eBay for $61 including shipping.

I bought the MK jeans and Kardashian dress to sell on eBay, they were $2 each.

I also got some cute toys for my nephew for $1 each or less.

EDIT: The Harley shirt sold on eBay for $18 plus shipping.

More clothes for work and to sell, all $2 or less each.

I bought these adorable little girls clothes to sell for less than $1 each. The Merimekko dress is from a sought after designer.

B needed new shoes and I got these for $1 each.

More clothes for work and to sell, all $2 or less each.

EDIT: The pink Lane Bryant suit jacket sold on Poshmark for $25 plus shipping.

The curtains were for my mother and were $5 for 2 panels.

4-21-18 Finds From 2 Rummage Sales and 3 Neighborhood Yard Sales Including Hand Carved Wooden Chests and a Flatscreen

I had way, way too much fun going to 2 rummage sales and 3 entire neighborhood garage sales! And all within a few minutes of our house.

I was especially excited with the above carved wooden chest that I paid $30 for! They are about 2 feet high when stacked (I mention this because my family thought they were jewelry boxes from the picture). I have wanted some like this for a long time but wasn’t going to pay hundreds of dollars for them. They are (supposedly) hand carved from Bali, Indonesia.

I was also excited to find this Central Fl History book! It was a quarter.

I got 3 Chive On shirts for .25 cents each to sell online.

EDIT: These 3 shirts sold for $15 + shipping on Poshmark.

I also got this box full of clothes to sell online that were .25 cents each or .50 cents each. I probably spent about $8 total and we will see what profit I can turn that into.

We got this small HD flatscreen TV with a remote for $5. I wanted a little TV for the office (when I’m listing all the clothes!) so this is perfect.

I love the above whitewashed, wooden, carving wall hanging. I haven’t figured out where to put it yet but we have a lot of empty walls.

I got those two plastic storage contains for $1.50 for both.

The mirror and bag of marvel toys were $1 each and came with about 30 free hangers that I need to hang the clothes I’m selling.

I got quite a few nicknacks too including a miniature, ceramic bathroom set, an hour glass necklace, an anthropologie, elephant, ring holder dish. My mom told me to look for antique, bronze baby shoes and I got the above one for .50 cents and there is an actual baby shoe inside. I think it’s super creepy.

I picked up some other small stuff too like the bag.

I was also very excited about this $5 dresser. It’s ugly and a little dirty but I really think that it will be perfect when I’m done with it and it’s summer so it’s a good time for a project.

4-21-18 A Few Frugal Things

 A few frugal things

– My friend gave me a really nice frame that she wasn’t using anymore. Unfortunately, the glass cracked but I have been taking the glass out of our pictures because of the cats. I had found the above beautiful watercolor boat picture on sale (because it was missing a frame) for $1.99. Turns out they fit perfectly and we hung it in our entrance way by the front door. It’s funny because our entrance way looks a lot more expensive!

– Last weekend we had such a busy weekend that we didn’t feel like going to the grocery store and we have really made due with the food we had in the house. It has been a bit of a stretch but we are probably better off for eating PB&Js for work lunches.

– I found some things that I have been looking for at the thrift shop for a long time including an outside love seat. I’m washing the cushions but will probably eventually recover them.

– Still enjoying watching ER (there are 16 long seasons) on HULU. And I have also been watching Married At First Sight Australia for free on the website Daily Motion.

– Slowly putting stuff aside for another yard sale this summer. We have a great neighborhood for it and did very well last time with very low-priced items. I find it helps to just keep storing stuff in the same place until we get enough.

– We had the landlord’s handy man come for some repairs. He fixed some things and replaces some light bulbs at no cost to us. We also got a new dishwasher.

– I had purchased some closet repair supplies thinking it would be easier to fix the closet ourselves than to wait for the repair but it never got done. When I showed the handy man he already had the supplies and told me to return what I had purchased which will be about $15 back!

– I had to go to a long Friday work meeting but they fed us lunch. It was in another part of town that I’m not usually in so I took the opportunity to avoid taking the toll roads home and stop at 3 thrift shops along the way. I had some great luck with some awesome finds for us and to sell on eBay.

– I am slowly redoing our outside patio to look more like an outside living room by our beautiful pool. I spray painted a few items, bought an outside love seat, bought a couple of outside pillows. I’ll do a post on it soon.

– I made two outside solar chandeliers and they work great and are super cool looking. If we get a few more outside solar spot lights we probably wouldn’t need any electric lights at night in the back yard. This would  be a small electricity savings but, as renters, I love that we can take these with us when we move also.

– We did a huge grocery shop and have been enjoying some of our favorite and frugal meals at home. So far we are resisting take out.

– This weekend I organized and cleaned the closet. It had become a disaster site and was driving me crazy. I still need to pack up the winter clothes so that I better see and make use of my FL summer wardrobe.

– I turned all of the hangers backwards so that I would know what I am wearing and what I’m not over the summer.

Not so Frugal

– Our oldest cat was peeing blood and had to go to the vet. I tried a new vet closer to home that seemed to have similar prices. I declined several hundreds of dollars of treatments in favor of trying antibiotics first. Less invasive and one shot lasts for 2-3 weeks. So far so good.

– We still have to flea treat the pets but were able to go about 2 months between treatments and I split a dose between our two smallest cats. Still need to order more flea meds and heartworm meds for the dog but I budgeted for it.

Extra Income

– I am planning a yard sale for this summer which always motivates me to get rid of junk.

– I am revamping my eBay business because I will have 6 weeks off of work. I purchased some nice name brand clothes including Michael Kors, Lucky Brand, Harley Davidson and more to list during that time.

– The closet in my sewing/eBay room had a broken rack so the stuff was piled around and was making it harder for me to access my stuff. It was fixed today and that should help me get more organized. I plan on hanging up a lot of the new inventory I have purchased but I think that means I will need to buy or source more hangers.

– I continue to do some small online work despite a small setback.

Harmful Chemical Free Living

– I continue to look at thrift shops for a new floor steamer without any luck. Ours overheated and although we don’t have much tile in this house, I would like to deep clean it this summer.

3-7-18 Thrift Finds- Stuff to Sell on eBay, Clothes and an Octopus

I purchased the above clothes to sell on eBay and they are all great brands including Victoria’s Secret, Lucky, Hollister Shorts or Jeans Only, Harley Davidson, and White House Black Market ($1 to 1.75 each).

I got these 9 West shoes for $9.99. I might have over paid but they are my favorite shoe brand, super comfortable and I think I will wear them while teaching until they fall apart.

I am so excited about this Octopus ($2.99). It’s SOLID metal and very heavy. I plan to paint it so that it will match our pool area. The silver is currently not in great shape.

I got B a shirt ($1.99) and jacket ($5.99)and I got myself the above jacket from buckle with the tags on by way of the thrift shop for $7.99.

Here are some more items I plan to sell on eBay. The brands are Motherhood Maternity, Chicos, and LIMI. The last I had never heard of but it seems to sell for several hundred dollars per coat on eBay.

The above clothes were for me and B and cost between ($1 to 1.75 each). All of the clothes cost in this price range unless I mentioned it specifically.

This Michael Kors shirt for less than $2 will be going on eBay with a much better picture.

I was especially excited to find the duvet cover on the left with pillow cases because it matches a set I already LOVE from IKEA. I tried to buy a larger size also in this fabric but they no longer sell it. I also got the above folding stool for FREE. And the expensive pocket square was in the pocket of one of the coats.

Thrift Finds- Outside Rocking Loveseat for $7.50

Since we moved into our most recent house with a pool we have been wanting to have more outside seating. But of course I was determined to find it at a thrift shop. I got the above chairs that go from seating to laying and also fold up small for $9 each at the thrift shop.

When I saw the below cute little Outside Rocking Loveseat for $7.50 I had to get it and the best part is it fit in my small SUV. The cushions were it good shape too. I am planning to recover them this summer, when I’m off of work, to match the teal chairs and pillows I also got at the thrift shop for $1 each.
