4-21-18 Finds From 2 Rummage Sales and 3 Neighborhood Yard Sales Including Hand Carved Wooden Chests and a Flatscreen

I had way, way too much fun going to 2 rummage sales and 3 entire neighborhood garage sales! And all within a few minutes of our house.

I was especially excited with the above carved wooden chest that I paid $30 for! They are about 2 feet high when stacked (I mention this because my family thought they were jewelry boxes from the picture). I have wanted some like this for a long time but wasn’t going to pay hundreds of dollars for them. They are (supposedly) hand carved from Bali, Indonesia.

I was also excited to find this Central Fl History book! It was a quarter.

I got 3 Chive On shirts for .25 cents each to sell online.

EDIT: These 3 shirts sold for $15 + shipping on Poshmark.

I also got this box full of clothes to sell online that were .25 cents each or .50 cents each. I probably spent about $8 total and we will see what profit I can turn that into.

We got this small HD flatscreen TV with a remote for $5. I wanted a little TV for the office (when I’m listing all the clothes!) so this is perfect.

I love the above whitewashed, wooden, carving wall hanging. I haven’t figured out where to put it yet but we have a lot of empty walls.

I got those two plastic storage contains for $1.50 for both.

The mirror and bag of marvel toys were $1 each and came with about 30 free hangers that I need to hang the clothes I’m selling.

I got quite a few nicknacks too including a miniature, ceramic bathroom set, an hour glass necklace, an anthropologie, elephant, ring holder dish. My mom told me to look for antique, bronze baby shoes and I got the above one for .50 cents and there is an actual baby shoe inside. I think it’s super creepy.

I picked up some other small stuff too like the bag.

I was also very excited about this $5 dresser. It’s ugly and a little dirty but I really think that it will be perfect when I’m done with it and it’s summer so it’s a good time for a project.

4-21-18 A Few Frugal Things

 A few frugal things

– My friend gave me a really nice frame that she wasn’t using anymore. Unfortunately, the glass cracked but I have been taking the glass out of our pictures because of the cats. I had found the above beautiful watercolor boat picture on sale (because it was missing a frame) for $1.99. Turns out they fit perfectly and we hung it in our entrance way by the front door. It’s funny because our entrance way looks a lot more expensive!

– Last weekend we had such a busy weekend that we didn’t feel like going to the grocery store and we have really made due with the food we had in the house. It has been a bit of a stretch but we are probably better off for eating PB&Js for work lunches.

– I found some things that I have been looking for at the thrift shop for a long time including an outside love seat. I’m washing the cushions but will probably eventually recover them.

– Still enjoying watching ER (there are 16 long seasons) on HULU. And I have also been watching Married At First Sight Australia for free on the website Daily Motion.

– Slowly putting stuff aside for another yard sale this summer. We have a great neighborhood for it and did very well last time with very low-priced items. I find it helps to just keep storing stuff in the same place until we get enough.

– We had the landlord’s handy man come for some repairs. He fixed some things and replaces some light bulbs at no cost to us. We also got a new dishwasher.

– I had purchased some closet repair supplies thinking it would be easier to fix the closet ourselves than to wait for the repair but it never got done. When I showed the handy man he already had the supplies and told me to return what I had purchased which will be about $15 back!

– I had to go to a long Friday work meeting but they fed us lunch. It was in another part of town that I’m not usually in so I took the opportunity to avoid taking the toll roads home and stop at 3 thrift shops along the way. I had some great luck with some awesome finds for us and to sell on eBay.

– I am slowly redoing our outside patio to look more like an outside living room by our beautiful pool. I spray painted a few items, bought an outside love seat, bought a couple of outside pillows. I’ll do a post on it soon.

– I made two outside solar chandeliers and they work great and are super cool looking. If we get a few more outside solar spot lights we probably wouldn’t need any electric lights at night in the back yard. This would  be a small electricity savings but, as renters, I love that we can take these with us when we move also.

– We did a huge grocery shop and have been enjoying some of our favorite and frugal meals at home. So far we are resisting take out.

– This weekend I organized and cleaned the closet. It had become a disaster site and was driving me crazy. I still need to pack up the winter clothes so that I better see and make use of my FL summer wardrobe.

– I turned all of the hangers backwards so that I would know what I am wearing and what I’m not over the summer.

Not so Frugal

– Our oldest cat was peeing blood and had to go to the vet. I tried a new vet closer to home that seemed to have similar prices. I declined several hundreds of dollars of treatments in favor of trying antibiotics first. Less invasive and one shot lasts for 2-3 weeks. So far so good.

– We still have to flea treat the pets but were able to go about 2 months between treatments and I split a dose between our two smallest cats. Still need to order more flea meds and heartworm meds for the dog but I budgeted for it.

Extra Income

– I am planning a yard sale for this summer which always motivates me to get rid of junk.

– I am revamping my eBay business because I will have 6 weeks off of work. I purchased some nice name brand clothes including Michael Kors, Lucky Brand, Harley Davidson and more to list during that time.

– The closet in my sewing/eBay room had a broken rack so the stuff was piled around and was making it harder for me to access my stuff. It was fixed today and that should help me get more organized. I plan on hanging up a lot of the new inventory I have purchased but I think that means I will need to buy or source more hangers.

– I continue to do some small online work despite a small setback.

Harmful Chemical Free Living

– I continue to look at thrift shops for a new floor steamer without any luck. Ours overheated and although we don’t have much tile in this house, I would like to deep clean it this summer.

3-15-18 Thrift Finds- Baskets, Sperrys, Pillows

I had fun thrifting at my favorite local shop on half off day. I was excited to score these baskets for $1 each. I always need more storage in my sewing room.

I also bought these Sperrys for my sister but she decided I should sell them on ebay instead. We will see  how I do.

EDIT: These sold on Poshmark for $28 plus shipping.

I was able to buy some more clothes for work and life and a really cool elephant candle holder.

I was especially excited to buy this Coleman lantern. We had a rough hurricane season in FL this past year and this is the right time to start buying hurricane supplies when people forget that we might need them again next year.

I bought all of these pillows for $1 each. The left two will go great on our pool area. The two on the right turned out to be down pillows which won’t work for us so I was able to give them to my mom whose house they match better to begin with.

I bought the bento box lunch container on the left for $1 as I always pack my work lunches. The minions shoes are for my nephew. And the file organizer I got to organize lids in the cabinet.

2-18-18 Thrift Finds- Pop Up Fire Truck and Squatty Potty

I’m a bit late posting this. When my nephew comes to visit I try to have some age appropriate toys for him to play with that I can donate back or pass on after he leaves. The above pop out fire truck was a huge hit with the cats, probably more than my nephew.

This is the best time of year to buy boots, especially if they are only $2 each!

This funny ride on, spin toy was probably a little too much for a 1 year old so I’m going to hold on to it until his next visit. It was $3.99 at Goodwill.

The shirt is from Anthropologie and some other small items we picked up. The shirt and graphing calculator are to sell on eBay. The large reusable bag was FREE.

That white hunk of plastic is none other than an official squatty potty. I got it for $2.50 as someone I know wanted one. They aren’t $2.50 new and this one looked like no one had ever used it. You don’t actually go to the bathroom in it so it’s not a gross as it sounds but apparently there are some great commercials for this product.

2-3-18 Thrift Finds: Almost Free Yard Sale Shopping

Friends of ours were having a yard sale and I went with the puppy to visit them. They weren’t that far from closing and packing up and they loaded my arms with clothes. I believe I gave them $3 that they tried not to take. Most of the clothes fit us and it was less for them to take to the thrift shop.

They also took the below sweater off of a teddy bear and put it on the puppy. Where’s Waldo anyone?

Tons of Disney Stuff @ The Hope Chest Thrift Shop in Central, FL

One of my favorite thrift hops is The Hope Chest Thrift Shop in Ovideo, Fl. They receive tons of lost and found items from Disney! Check them out HERE and they have great sales for different days of the week including half off certain days.

1-15-18 Thrift Finds- Mini dog, Corelle and Singing Fake Birds

The puppy was a little confused by his new mini me but I found some good finds for cheap.

These trays were $1.50 each but still had the original Macy’s price stickers of $17.99.

I added to my set of these Corelle dishes but shattered the lid after making my first casserole.

I am always happy to find a Dave Ramsey book to sell or pass along. The robe above is Vera Bradley. The pink sweaters were for a hat sewing project for a march.

I snagged this Kenneth Cole rolling bag for $4. Thanks to built in obsolescence these bags no longer come with replaceable wheels so when the wheels are shot the bag can’t be repaired. I usually always have one I’m using and try to keep a spare for when it goes.

I also found another catchphrase portable console for work. And the BB8 was too cute to pass up.

I got some nice shirts, toys for Gimli and my 1 year old nephew and a book. The birds sing and move and are overall adorable.

1-6-17 Thrift Finds- Glass Fish and Ice Cream Maker

I had fun thrifting in early Jan. Many people have time off in Dec to go through their houses or it might be a new year’s resolution.

I collect the above fish and was thrilled to find them for $2.99 each! They are highly collectable and sell well but I’m keeping them.

The above Play Station charger was cheap but unfortunately didn’t work.

Below are some winter clothes, a starbucks cup and some shelf expanders.

My mom asked me to get her a lighted makeup mirror ($3) and I have been searching for a second hand swifter ($2)since the refils are $1 at Dollar Tree.

I got the mirror for my mother for her purse, the ice cream maker was NIB for $10 and we have used it a lot since. The file dividers I am using to org the dish cabinets.

12-20-17 Recent Thrift Finds – A Crazy Chair, Eco- Purses, Sheets

I had a lot of fun thrifting with my mother when she stayed with us for Christmas. Here are some of our finds. The cats love this crazy chair I bought for my office/sewing room for $5!!! My old chair was stuck at low and I couldn’t resist this cool chair when I needed a new one.

I got these express pants, dress skirt, and 9 West shoes for $2 each.
The below purses were $1 each. The one on the left is made from an old billboard. The middle one is an eco friendly brand.

The above small trash can was $2, some cheap toys for my nephew, $1 sandals and a $2 egg cooker.

Below is a brand new DSW carpet bag for $2.50, 3 purple mason jars, a sharper image star machine for my nephew and a 9 West glasses case. My glasses are 9 west and their case was too big.

10-01-17 Recent Thrift Finds

I have had some really great luck thrift shopping lately. Here are some of my finds!

I found the above cubes that make an end table/ side table for $7 and they match the dark wood furniture in my living room.

It’s not a great picture but I found the above baby toys which are all name brands and very expensive in the stores for about .50 cents each for my nephew.

I found the above Tommy Bahama shower curtain and towel set for about $4 and they perfectly match my bathroom. Shower curtains are so expensive new! I could sell this set on eBay but I decided to keep it since we have a lot of company in our guest bathroom and it really does match perfectly.

This salad keeper was only $1.

I got the above pet food dish set for about $3 total. They are adorable!

This rolling cooler was about $2 and we needed one to replace our old one.

I also got this brand new with tags pet bed for $2. You really can find great new items at thrift stores too!!!
