Dollar Tree- Household Items For Only $1

My favorite dollar store is Dollar Tree. Every item in the store is $1. I know that there are a lot of people who refuse to shop at dollar stores which I think is silly. I use Dollar Tree to set a lot of my price points (meaning a price I won’t pay over for a specific item). I know that you can find a lot of the items sold at dollar stores for cheaper with coupons but dollar stores like Dollar Tree can help you stay on budget when you don’t have coupons for a specific item you need.

While shopping there the other day with my sister we noticed some items that we thought were particularly good deals. Here are a few of them. Remember all of these items are only $1.

A Bottle of Condensed Laundry Detergent. It says 32 loads which is comparable to brand name bottles.

Dishwasher Detergent and Large Bottles of Dish Soap

Bleach

A Full Pack of Napkins

Lots of Candles and Air Fresheners. These might be a good idea for Christmas Gift Baskets.

A Six Pack of Water. We all know that bottled water is more expensive than refillable bottles but this again serves as a reminder that $2 a bottle for water out of a vending machine is highway robbery.

Spaghetti Sauce and Noodles. Could be a very cheap dinner.

Dollar Tree brand Swiffer Sweeper Refills, Dollar Tree brand Swiffer Dusters, and Dollar Tree brand Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. All of these can be very pricey at regular stores. I tried the last two of these and they worked as well as the name brand but at a much lower price.

So many stores sell these basic household items for so much more than at Dollar Tree even when you consider size and quality. It helps me stay on budget because I never have to pay more than $1 for any of the items on this list. Why pay more when you can get the same items for this cheap?

11-5-11 Free At CVS This Week

This week CVS’s Coupon Machine was giving out coupons for free Illy coffee drinks. *TIP* We had to scan our cards twice for the machine to print the coupon. I have noticed that if you scan your card twice it will often give you different coupons. The Dawn dish soap was on sale for .99¢ and I used .50¢ off coupons from the 10/30 RP to make them .50¢ each. I had $1 CVS bucks which I used to make my total for these three items .02¢. Getting stuff for pennies is my favorite way to shop.

11-5-11 Free In The Mail This Week

Here are a few things that I have received free in the mail this week. Whenever I see legitimate offers for free samples or other items I try to sign up for them. Often they come with coupons, sometimes even for free full sized items. I love getting mail and I love free stuff. It’s a win win.

I received-

– Free Poise Samples

– Free Playtex Samples

– A Coupon for Free Hair Color

Storage Wars- My Experience At A Storage Auction

I know that many of us are huge fans of the show Storage Wars. Could it really be that easy to buy and sell storage lockers? My uncle who buys storage lockers was in town and took me to an actual storage auction where we bought a unit.

Homemade Weed Killer Update

It worked! But as you can see I didn’t spray enough in certain areas. I will go back and spray again but I’m happy with the results that came from mixing items I already had in my cabinet. Click HERE to see my previous post on how I made it.

Winn-Dixie Coffee Mate Deal

Winn-Dixie is running a deal for an automatic $1 off when you buy three 16oz coffee mate items. Certain 16oz coffee mate creamers cost 3 for $5. Right in front of the coffee mate section was an in store coupon dispenser with coupons for .55¢ off of one. There are also .50¢ off of one coupons in the 10/30 Red Plum. So for $2.35 total or .78¢ each I was able to get three coffee creamers. I did this deal twice because we drink so much coffee in our house. These don’t expire until Feb. but we will have used all 6 bottles long before then. Unfortunately I believe that the automatic $1 off expires today but you would still be able to get three for $3.50 or under with the .50¢ off coupons.

*Note* anything bought at Winn-Dixie also contributes to Fuelperks Rewards to get cheaper gas.

Homemade Weed Killer

This is the first time since I was a child that I have lived in a house. Something we considered when renting our house was the lawn care but we still wanted our own lawn. My boyfriend mows our decent sized lawn so I decided that it was up to me to pull the weeds out of the sidewalk cracks and mulch flower beds.

However, we have hundreds of clovers mixed in with the mulch. Instead of hand pulling each of them I decided to look up homemade weed killer.

After looking it up, I learned that salt and vinegar are the two main ingredients in homemade weed killer, both of which I already had in my cabinet. I took both of those and mixed them in a small reused spray bottle.

I sprayed it on the clovers today and it worked!

Thanks to The Garden Counselor for the information.

Making a Profit off of Publix Clearance

Remember my post about always looking out for stuff on clearance? Well I noticed these trial sized items on sale at Publix for change, went home and realized that I had coupons for them. Not only were some of these items free but I was paid overage to take them out of the store. That’s the way I like to shop!

Shopping With My Sister

Yesterday I got to go shopping with my sister which is always lots of fun. My sister is a shopaholic like no other. She loves to shop but she somehow always finds the most amazing deals so that she never spends much money.

We found these cute Almost Famous shorts at Sears for $2.99.

She also needed a birthday gift for her friend and we went to Bath & Body Works that was having Fall Clearance. She got almost $40 worth of stuff for $10.

At CVS, she needed some air fresheners so we the deal where if you spend $12 on select glade products you get $4 ECBs. After the coupons she used and the ECBs she received this ended up costing around $4. Not bad for something she needed to buy anyway.

At Publix, we got a few things she needed and it only cost about $2.

Shopping is always more fun when I get to go with my sister. We compare deals and we encourage each other to save. I definitely recommend having a shopping/saving buddy!
